Local Events: Victoria Day Weekend Made Easy In Prestige Communities


There is no better place to be than in British Columbia for May Long weekend. While there is so much to enjoy over the winter months in our beautiful province, there’s just something about May Long and the tease of summer that it brings. Prestige is all about celebrating our communities and everything they have to offer. We know our guests feel that way too! In fact, we’ve gone ahead and collected some local happenings to keep you in the loop. There are many local events this Victoria Day Weekend happening to keep you busy.

Here is a collection of events and experiences conveniently located in, or near, our communities over Victoria Day Weekend 2022:


The Thompson Okanagan:

Wit – A play by Margaret Edson  –  Wit is a critically lauded play that was won several Emmy, Golden Globe, SAG and Peabody Awards. In fact, since the plays debut it has been adapted into an HBO film and has even won a Pulitzer Prize! Catch a show at the Rotary Centre for the Arts in Kelowna.

Okanagan Heritage Museum – syilx Spotlight: The Winter Home – Drop in at the Okanagan Heritage Museum in Kelowna for a fascinating, hands-on look at sylix (Okanagan) culture and traditions.

Audio Land Walks- Caravan Farm Theatre (27.3 km from Vernon, 37 km from Salmon Arm) – The Land Walks is an immersive audio experience. Enjoy three unique, spellbinding audio creations that lead the listener on a 45 minute walk through 80 acres. Each story has been purposefully built to guide the listener through the landscape. Caravan Farm Theatre is located in Armstrong and their events are indeed some of the best experiences the Okanagan has to offer.

Bloom’s Tulip Festival (27.3 km from Vernon, 37 km from Salmon Arm) – While you’re in Armstrong, stop in at the very first annual Tulip Festival! Enjoy not only 2.5 acres of stunning tulips, but a U-PICK field as well. There are pre-cut flowers for sale, and food trucks!

The Falkland Stampede (44 km from Vernon, 50.5 km from Salmon Arm)– Put on your Stetson and your cowboy boots and attend the 102nd Falkland Stampede!

The Wizard of Oz – Sage Brush Theatre – There’s no place like Kamloops! Come see a spectacular original West Canada Theatre production, the story you know and love with a few tornado twists!


Kootenay Rockies:

Asian Heritage Month Film Festival – Touchstones Nelson Museum of Art and History – See “Fukoshiki” by Carlo Alcos, Tsuneko Kokubo and Paul Gibbons. The film will be followed by a panel discussion.

New Friends, Old Friends – A Queer Dance Party – At last, we can dance again! Head over the Royal on Baker Street in Nelson and get ready to boogie. The event is raising funds for trans community members to access gender-affirming care.

Kaslo May Days (69.8 km from Nelson) – Enjoy the diversity of Kaslo. May Days has logging sports, dozens of arts and crafts vendors, artisan food, craft drinks, and lastly, a Show and Shine!

Music In The Mountains (16.5 km from Radium, 120 km from Golden) – Invermere invites you to a night of music! See four acts with a full concert experience. This is the very first Music In the Mountains event, we hope to see you there!


The Island:

Sooke Folk Music Society – Coffee House – Live Coffee House feature Ross Douglas. Enjoy some local music with some local people.

Sooke Country Market – Enjoy local produce, baked goods, and artisan products!

Canvas Family Fest (40.2 km from Sooke)– Celebrate Victoria Day with friends and family in Victoria. In other words, the most “Victoria” Victoria Day celebration you’ll find!

The Spirit of Africa Gala Night (40.2 km from Sooke) – Kick off the annual African Cultural Week and Issamba Festival in Victoria! Join in on an unforgettable night of African Storytelling, music, food, fashion, and community gala. Everyone is welcome to come celebrate.

Ballet Victoria Cinderella (40.2 km from Sooke)– Experience the passion of a fairy-tale romance accompanied with Prokofiev’s enchanting classical score. Ballet Victoria’s 21st century ballet follows the story of the classical Cinderella, but with a little twist, adding some humor and new characters.

 159th Victoria Highland Games & Celtic Festival (40.2 km from Sooke)– Victoria Highland Games Festival looks forward to welcoming everyone back! Highlights include pipe bands, Canadian Invitational Drum Major Challenge, International Heavy Events Challenge, Strathcona Mounted Troup, Highland and Irish dance, Celtic music, and much more!


Northern BC:

Monster Spectacular – Mixing the thrills and spills of motorsports, showmanship, and the ultimate fan experience. Monster Spectacular is coming to Prince George!

Bulkley Valley Farmer’s Market – First get your fresh veggies and baking. Then stock up on meat, eggs, and honey. Lastly, check out some amazing hand-crafted artisan products. Find all of this in Smithers!

Experience North Pacific Cannery (22.1 km from Prince Rupert)- Spend Victoria Day in the past. Take a guided tour and experience 130 years of history at the North Pacific Cannery.
