Pride 2022 is just around the corner! Many of our BC communities are hosting festivities for this year’s celebration. From marches to discussion panels, parties to dog walks, there is so much happening! As COVID-19 restrictions have lifted, many of our communities are looking forward to finally celebrating in person again. While many of our communities have held Pride events over the past few months, there are still many happening in June and over the summer! If you’re staying with us in the month of June, or already reside in one of our communities, here is a convenient list of what’s happening for Pride 2022:
The Thompson Okanagan:
Join us in Kelowna for the largest Pride Festival in the BC Interior! Kelowna held its first Pride 25 years ago, and it’s looking like 2022 is going to be their best Pride yet. Pride Week runs from June 6-12, with many events and festivities taking place. June 9th will be the Kelowna Trans March and Social, starting at the Sails and marching to the Kelowna Art Gallery. The Kelowna Pride March and Festival is scheduled for June 11 at 11:30 am – 3:00 pm at Kelowna City Park.
Not able to make it to the Kelowna area for June? You’re in luck! Kamloops will be hosting their Pride Week festivities August 22nd-29th. They have a jam packed week planned, including a comedy show, scavenger hunt, sexual health panel, headphone disco, Drag events, and lastly, a Pride Parade!
Kootenay Rockies:
Cranbrook Pride will be hosting multiple events over the course of 2022. In June Cranbrook Pride will be hosting a Pride Car Parade! The Parade starts at 3:30 and they invite everyone to decorate their car and wear costumes! There will be prizes! Follow the Cranbrook Pride Facebook page to stay up to date on upcoming festivities through the rest of the year.
The Island:
The Victoria Pride Society is so happy to be returning to in-person events in 2022! The Victoria Pride Festival will run from June 23rd-July 2nd. Victoria Pride Festival is going to be fun for the whole family! With a Youth Pride Kick-Off Queer Prom for the younger crowd, and a Big Gay Dog Walk for the pups, no one is excluded. The Victoria Pride Society has planned a jam packed week of unique events including a Memorial Drag Ball Game, and Pride In The Word, the largest literary Pride event in Canada. Pride In the Word will feature six writers bringing an intersectional lens to our 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.
Victoria is only a 45 minute drive from Sooke!
Northern BC:
Smithers Pride Society welcomes you to Pride 2022 on June 4th. They will be showcasing incredible local musicians, vendors, and businesses that support the 2SLGTBQIA+ Community. Smithers Public Library will host their annual family friend Pride Story Time for younger guests. Smithers Art Gallery will also return and host a Pride related art activity.
PG Pride will be hosting a Pride 2022 Hawaiian Theme Dance on June 4th in Prince George. The event is 19+ and includes dancing, music, cocktails, food, and a Drag performance. Tickets can be purchased in advance, or at the door.
