Cranbrook is by no means a small town but when walking through the heart of downtown you can’t help but enjoy the quaint and welcoming atmosphere. Local boutique stores, cafes and shop fronts reveal some of the incredible history behind this destination town, and they make for an enjoyable time wandering through.

Only a short walk from the Prestige Rocky Mountain Resort, the Cranbrook History Centre has a plethora of activities to partake in. Whether it is taking a guided historical railcar tour, diving into the historic museum displays, watching their large model railway travel 64 feet through a Kootenay mountain pass, or simply admiring the stunning Royal Alexandra Hall, the Cranbrook History Centre has something for everyone! Note: the guided tour train is something you do not want to miss out on (even if trains are not your thing).

3) Bike the North Star Rails to Trails to the town of Kimberley

Stretching over 28 kilometers and connecting the cities of Cranbrook and Kimberley, the North Star Rails to Trails is a great way to experience an iconic BC outdoor experience while seeing one of the greatest backdrops along the way – the Rocky Mountains!

The trailhead starts only a short drive from the hotel. A significant portion of the ride is uphill into the town of Kimberley where you will want to stop to refresh before enjoying the downhill ride back into Cranbrook. Just before reaching Kimberley, another recommended stop is the Marysville Falls Trail which is a short hike down to a beautiful waterfall.

If you didn’t bring your own bikes, you can hire them in town or borrow the complimentary bikes we have onsite at the resort!

There is also a great service if you wish to cycle one way and ride the bus the other way. Book the Community Bus one day before you travel by call 250 427 7400. Note that is available on Tuesday to Friday only and is $3 each way.

The trail isn’t maintained during winter but may still provide a beautiful Fat Biking experience or even cross-country skiing.

4) Play a round of golf at Wildstone Golf Course.

Renowned as the first Black Knight Design by Gary Player in Canada, the award winning golf course has become a local and fan favorite and a ‘must play’ for any golfers visiting the area.

The course is set on the rolling highlands above Cranbrook which provides some of the most stunning views of the Rocky Mountains from the start of your round and until the end.

At over 7100 yards, it is a difficult par 72 layout which challenges every golfer. But don’t worry, the only memories you will taking home is the pristine condition of the course and the breathtaking views over each hole.

Please note that the course is seasonal so call ahead to enquire on times if traveling in the off season.

5) Visit The Cottage Restaurant for a homely breakfast experience

Another great spot for dining out is at The Cottage Restaurant. They have amazing comfort food, served in large portions by lovely staff. When you see the restaurant from the outside, it will make you feel like you’re going to your grandma’s house and the food certainly tastes as homey. Their sandwiches are a great order choice but unless you’re feeling daring or extra hungry, order the half portion. Remember though, we warned you!

6) Take an evening out at the Fire Hall Kitchen & Tap

The Fire Hall Kitchen and Tap is a local favourite and by all means warranted. From the onset of dining within an old heritage fire hall, to the delicious menu items crafted to make your mouth water, to the soothing pour of local BC craft beer, there is a reason this place is always packed.

Take a look at the menu items here.

7) Visit the Kimberley Alpine Resort

The Kimberley Alpine Resort is located in Kimberly, a 40 minute drive from the Prestige Rocky Mountain Resort and make for a wonderful winter experience. The mountain boasts over 68 ski runs, 1800 acres of land, and a top elevation of 6500 feet. The Resort offers a number of other activities apart from skiing including Snowshoe Tours, Fat Bike Tours, and Chocolate Fondue Tours. If you are not into the winter sports, the resort or town of Kimberley will provide for many shopping, dining and people watching opportunities.

8) Explore the quaint town of Kimberley
Kimberley-19
While in Kimberley, make sure to allow some time to wander the pedestrian-only streets which are lined with shops, boutiques, giant chess pieces, and restaurants. The town has a European influence and look which make for some great photos and a pleasant change in atmosphere. You could easily mistake the town for one in Switzerland!

One of the big attractions to this town is that they hold the world’s largest cuckoo clock. Simply stick a coin in and then witness the emergence of Happy Hans, a yodelling, mustachioed man clad in short leather shorts holding a beer stein.

Pair this activity in with option 3 or 7 to get more from your day!

9) Ice skating at Baker Park

If you visit our hotel in the winter, there is a lovely local park which ices over and is well maintained by the community. It provides for some great free ice-skating and a cute spot to simply enjoy the outdoors with a loved one. Just remember to bring your own skates!

10) Visit the Fire and Oak restaurant
