Nitty Gritty Dirt Band to Play Vernon!

Calling all Nitty Gritty Dirt Band fans – the American country-folk rockers will play at the Vernon & District Performing Arts Centre on Wednesday, October 29th.

The two-time Grammy Award winners formed in Long Beach, California back in 1966. Since then, the band has seen a range of member changes. In fact, the group was known as “The Dirt Band” for a short time from 1976 to 1981.

Despite the many changes to band personnel, Jeff Hanna (lead vocalist and guitarist) and Jimmie Fadden (drums)were with the band from the very beginning.

The band have released 25 studio albums, with 2009’s Speed of Life being the most recent. They have enjoyed success with singles “Long Hard Road (The Sharecropper’s Dream)”, “Modern Day Romance” and “Fishin’ in the Dark” – all of which went to #1 in the US country chart. “Fishin’ in the Dark” is arguably the band’s best known song and it eventually went gold! The band also received notoriety for their cover of “Mr. Bojangles”, which you can check out below:

The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band have been credited with having a strong influence on the development of modern country. Okanagan music fans will be in for a great night when they attend the Vernon concert.
