Chasing waterfalls: The best natural destinations across B.C.

You may go hunting mountain tops, lakes and beaches, which we have in plenty across beautiful British Columbia, but we can often forget about the remote and hidden waterfalls all around us. There’s something magical about standing at the base of a waterfall, a combination of the thundering power of the water and the gentle mist that touches your cheeks.

We’ve put together some of our favourite hidden gems across BC, all near Prestige locations so you have a comfortable place to relax after your day’s adventure. These stunning waterfalls are guaranteed to leave you feeling refreshed and in awe of the natural beauty that surrounds us.

Christie Falls // Kelowna

Although the hike is only 3km round trip, these falls are a hidden gem that can be challenging to get to. That being said, they are absolutely stunning, and are well worth the trek in! They’re about an hour drive from downtown Kelowna on a bumpy forest service road, and you can find the full directions click here. The falls themselves are located in a stunning canyon, and feature a soft mist flowing down over a cave you can explore.

BX Falls // Vernon

On hot summer days, there’s nothing better than escaping the heat and cooling off by a refreshing creek. The hike in is roughly 2.7km and provides a peaceful oasis even on the hottest days as it’s shaded by tall cedar trees.  When you reach the viewpoint and BX Falls, you’ll feel as though you’re in another world far from the busy city.

Margaret Falls // Salmon Arm

Another short, easy hike with huge rewards! Located off Sunnybrae Road, just outside of Salmon Arm, Margaret Falls is one of the most stunning falls in the area. Due to heavy spring runoff, there may have been some damage to the trail, so be sure to check the BC Parks page for updates on accessibility.

Wapta Falls // Golden

The Wapta Falls in Yoho National Park are breathtaking to say the least. The 2.3km hike brings you to the top of the falls before ducking back into the trees and bringing you to the bottom of the majestic sheet of water. With a backdrop of rocky mountains, it’s the perfect place to sit and reconnect with nature.
