This coming Tuesday, communities across the country will gather to celebrate Canada’s 147th birthday and with locations throughout British Columbia, Prestige Hotels & Resorts is ready to celebrate too.
Here are some of the great Canada Day activities taking place at each of our cities.
Kelowna
In Kelowna, Canada Day celebrations take place downtown, just a short walk away from Prestige Inn Kelowna. Festivities include a birthday cake and ceremonies at Prospera Place (approx. 1:00pm), Folkfest Celebrations, a food fair, marketplace, “Kids Zone” and more. For many locals, one of the major highlights of the day include the wealth of free concerts and musical entertainment. Stages feature something for everyone with a wide variety of musical genres and you will find local bands and musicians, along with those from a bit farther away.
Of course, no Canada Day celebration is complete without fireworks, and Kelowna’s big show takes place near Tugboat Bay and Waterfront Park at 10:30 pm with a simulcast on 99.9 Sun FM.

Vernon
Vernon will celebrate Canada’s 147th birthday with lots of free activities at Polson Park and the DND Grounds, just a short drive from our Prestige Hotel Vernon.
The day will begin at 10am with an opening prayer from a local Elder. From there, the day will be filled with everything from pow wow dancers and magicians to classical, country, classic rock and alternative rock music. Shortly after 1:00pm, the presentations and ceremonies will begin and free cake and maple sugar cookies will be served.
At 7:30 pm, the evening festivities at the DND Grounds will get under way with a musical performance from the Legendary Lake Monsters. A free outdoor movie will be shown at 9:30pm with fireworks to take place at 10:30pm.
Salmon Arm
The Canada Day Children’s Festival is a popular event in Salmon Arm, offering families a free event to help celebrate Canada’s birthday. The festivities are held at the Salmon Arm North Fairgrounds and offers up dance exhibitions, music, magicians, and clowns to entertain the family.
The festival takes place between 10am and 3pm and also offers fun activities like bouncy castles, arts and crafts, and $0.50 games. Be sure the kids wear red as it entitles them to a free game ticket!
Golden
In Golden, breakfast is the most important meal of the day on July1st, with the annual free Canada Day pancake breakfast in Spirit Square. Once you’ve finished eating, you can cheer on the runners in the Kicking Horse Country Dash 6K & 10K run or head over to the museum for some old fashioned games for the kids.
At 12pm, the Canada Day Cake will be cut and served and the Golden Farmer’s Market will open. You can also check out the Redline Show & Shine until 5:00pm. Between 2pm and 5pm you can head over to the Municipal Outdoor Pool for a pool party.
A free concert and bonfire will take place at 8:30pm at the Golden Municipal Campground and then at 10:55pm you can gather around the Kicking Horse River Dyke for great views of the fireworks before heading back to the Prestige Inn Golden or Best Western – Mountainview Inn for a great night’s sleep.
Radium
As a small community, Radium doesn’t have many large Canada Day Celebrations of its own. Instead, most locals will make the 16km drive south to Invermere.
In Invermere, the Canada Day action gets started a bit earlier with fireworks at the Eddie Mountain Arena at Midnight on Monday, June 30th, rather than on July 1st. On Tuesday, you can check out the Canada Day Parade on Main Street at 11am and then head to the Pynelogs Cultural Centre from 12-3pm for live music, children’s activities, food and refreshments. Be sure to stop by the Build-a-Boat competition at 3:00pm before heading back to the Best Western Plus – Prestige Inn Radium Hot Springs for a relaxing night in this mountain wonderland.
Cranbrook
Relax and kick back at Prestige Rocky Mountain Resort or the Best Western Cranbrook Hotel before you make your way to Moir Park at 5:00pm to Celebrate Canada Day with the (modest) masses. The evening features plenty of live performances and food vendors for the adults and face painting, activities, bouncy castles and much more for the kids.
Cranbrook’s biggest fireworks show to date will take place at 11pm, so get ready for fun!
Nelson
Whether you are staying at Prestige Lakeside Resort or Prestige Inn Nelson this Canada Day, you may want to head to Baker St. for a pancake breakfast at 8:00am before heading to Lakeside Park at 10:30am. From 10:45am – 9:00pm, local musicians and performers will entertain the community. At 11:00am, the Canada Day Cake will be served and until 3pm, the Rotary Club will host their annual BBQ.
Once the music comes to an end, you can pick your spot on the lakefront and take in the fireworks over the shimmering waters at 10:00pm. Be sure to ask the front desk about the fireworks, as you may be able to see them from your room if you are staying with us at the Prestige Lakeside Resort!
Rossland
If you’re looking for a truly unique, Canadian experience this Canada Day, why not join the annual Mount Roberts Community Hike in Rossland. Each year, more than 100 people aged 4 to 84 hike up the Mount Roberts and join in a picnic lunch before singing the national anthem and raising the Canadian Flag.
Back in town, the Canada Day Celebrations begin at 12:30pm in Pioneer Park with the singing of O’ Canada and the cutting of the cake. There is also plenty of live music, kid’s games, and a BBQ too, all just a very short walk away from the Prestige Rocky Mountain Resort.
Sooke
While Sooke is just a short drive away from BC’s capital, Victoria, staying within the waterfront community and celebrating Canada Day with the locals has its advantages.
At 1:00pm, the opening ceremonies for Canada Day begin, featuring Sooke Pipe & Drums, the Royal Canadian Legion Br54 Colour Party and other dignitaries. At 1:30pm, the free Canada Day cake is cut and served, giving you the energy you need to participate in the wealth of activities on offer.
Sooke offers up kids’ games, music, a craft fair, face painting, and more. When it comes to entertainment, you certainly won’t be bored with lots of live music, a magic comedy act, the Freestyle Canine Show, and a pie eating contest. Of course, the big day ends with a big bang as Fireworks light the sky at 10:30pm.
No matter where you are staying with Prestige this Canada Day, enjoy celebrating Canada’s Birthday with family, friends, and locals at fun community events.
