Here are five back roads to cruise down and explore this summer!

Westside Okanagan Lake Loop

Westside Road certainly provides its share of adventure, which is a nice way of saying “be careful”. This scenic route provides gorgeous lake views and is famous for its sharp, snake-like bends and steep drops. It’s important to remember the speed limit and always be aware of your surroundings. Be sure to be on the lookout for bighorn sheep as they regularly use the road for their own travels!

North Okanagan-Shuswap Barn Quilt Trail

Route 97 branches off to 97A towards Armstrong/Spallumcheen, where you can then find and explore the Barn Quilt Trail. This route is continuously expanding, adding new sites along the trail. Set out for a scenic drive to discover the vibrant roadside gems – colourful quilt designs featured on rural properties – and enjoy the countryside!

Oyama Lake Road

Located above the Kelowna Airport, Oyama Lake Road leads to a gorgeous lake and a stunning lookout, located off a moderately rocky dirt road. As the road weaves through woods and up the mountainside, the views that peek through the trees to the lake are enchanting.

Beaver Lake Road

If you’re on your way to the lake or just passing some time, Beaver Lake Road will take you through stunning scenery and provide great opportunities to view the surrounding wildlife. Although it is lightly travelled, it contains numerous (nearly hidden) access points to wooded properties, cottages, and resorts. You’ll find beaches and a beautiful lake at the end of the road!

Carrs Landing Road

This quiet detour offers breathtaking, panoramic views of the lake and mountainside. The area is known for its stunning views of the sun setting and rising, and is included on the “Scenic Sip Wine Route.” This is a beautiful drive highlighting Okanagan lakes, orchards, and vineyards along miles of sun-drenched landscapes.

Before you head out on your unforgettable backroad trip, make sure you are prepared.
